As un-”protein bary” as protein bars get
As the title suggests, the Blueberry Crumb Cake Pure Protein bars are a great tasting protein bar. Because the fruit puree helps to sweeten the bars, the manufacturer cuts back on not only sugar but also maltitol (a sugar alcohol which, though often not counted toward the effective carbohydrate count, actually has an effect on blood sugar frighteningly similar to that of glucose).

This means that, if you’re on Phase 2 or 3 of the South Beach Diet like me, they are a great-tasting snack in which to occasionally indulge. I emphasize “occasionally” because the calorie count should still be considered before wolfing them down, and these seemingly harmless bars are a little over 200. But as the South Beach Diet says, calories aren’t everything. Heck, an ounce of almonds is 170. I can’t speak for the South Beach folks, but my bastardized version of Dr. Agatston’s diet is proceeding to work its wonders on me; I, a tall, white male, have lost 25 pounds in about four months (210 to 185). I am absolutely not heralding these bars for their weight loss effect — just observing that they seem to comport with the SBD’s general requirements. (Incidentally, the South Beach-branded bars, manufactured by Kraft, seem *not* to do so. They contain, of all things, high fructose corn syrup.)

The first bar I had wasnt too bad. Blueberry taste was different. Then I had another the following day and didnt care for it. Taste is kind of bland. Its edible, and probably better if you only have one once a week or something. Don’t just eat these ones for a week straight, get other bars to mix and match. I probably wont order these again.
